Tracing Shakespeare

In Love… Actually the prime minister (a.k.a. Hugh Grant) describes Great Britain like this:

“We may be a small country, but a great one too. We are the country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter, David Beckham’s right foot, David Beckham’s left foot.”

Yes, Great Britain is the country of Shakespeare, as I discovered fairly early when jumping on the Stansted Express on my very first day and I saw an ad for Alfa Romeo with the slogan: “I am such stuff as dreams are made on” (Original: “We are such stuff as dreams are made on” Prospero, The Tempest).

Just for fun I decided to collect my unexpected encounters with Shakespeare in my daily life on this page.

This is a quote from Romeo & Juliet. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a hurry so that I couldn’t go in and check out the link between the quote and the clothes. But I will definitely go back there!

What a great idea! I can´t wait to see & read some more (and if any Shakespeare quote should cross my way – i´ll let you know ;o))

      Yes, you definitely have to!
Just today I think I spotted a slight reference to Christopher Marlowe in the new Katy Perry album (in which I have also already spotted an indirect Shakespeare quote).

Either, Renaissance playwrights are really trendy right now or I’m becoming paranoid… Guess it’s the second option.
